Sandy McDonald

Sandy qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Thomson McLintock (now part of KPMG) in the 1970s prior to starting his legal career with Thorntons in 1980 where he specialised in Private Client work. Sandy was a partner at Thorntons for many years, and latterly a consultant. He has served the firm in many capacities over the years, including spells as Head of the Private Client Department, Finance Partner and Managing Partner.

Sandy has been a member of STEP since 1991 and was the first Chairman of the STEP Scotland Branch. He was also a member of the Advisory Group on Trust Law for the Scottish Law Commission and was an accredited Trust Specialist with the Law Society of Scotland. Sandy also tutored on the private client course of the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Dundee for a number of years.

Sandy is currently a tutor for the STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates (Scotland): Trust and Executry Accounting paper.
