Set 1 - Private wealth administration and governance

The programme is designed for practitioners involved in international trust administration and management to develop your understanding of a trustee’s duties when investing and managing the trust fund. It is recognised worldwide as the benchmark qualification for those working in the international trusts industry. This Advanced Certificate can be taken as part of the STEP Diploma.

This course focuses on the law and best practice relating to a core duty of the trustee – the proper management and investment of the trust fund. As the legal owner of the trust property, the trustee is more than a wealth manager or advisor, despite what might appear the case in practice. They bear responsibility as the ultimate decision-maker and are legally responsible for investment decisions and the discharge of their duties. This course covers the key considerations, evaluations and duties of a trustee in deciding how and in which asset classes to invest the trust property. It covers the range of assets from bonds to real estate, and from private equity to structured products. Students on this course will develop a deep and critical understanding of the law and best practice underpinning this critical discharge of a trustees duties and obligations towards the beneficiaries.

This course is awarded in association with Alliance Manchester Business School, the University of Manchester.
