The STEP Certificate in Foundations has been designed to help professionals in the wealth management industry understand the evolution of the foundation concept, including how it should be set up and administered as well as the full range of its potential uses.
Created by experts in the field, Dr John Goldsworth, Gavin Ferguson TEP and Filippo Noseda TEP, this course contains a series of practical examples from various international jurisdictions that illustrate the key differences in the formation and management of foundations and their distinctive uses in wealth structuring.
After completing the Certificate you will be able to:
- Describe the structure of foundations
- Detail the differences and similarities between trusts and foundations
- Identify when a foundation may be the most appropriate option to achieve a client’s aims
- Demonstrate awareness of local foundation legislation
- Identify the traps in creating and administering foundations for the unwary wealth professional
The content of the course has practical relevance across various jurisdictions, including Austria, Belgium, China, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Mauritius, the Middle East, Netherlands, Panama, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the Caribbean, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, the UK and USA.

The second section contains a practical element asking candidates to interpret clauses and resolutions contained within a pre-seen Foundation Charter and Rules/Regulations relating to the administration of a Foundation.
We recommend that you spend between four and six hours each week on personal study for the four months prior to the examination.
After you have successfully completed the course, you will gain 30 Entry Level credits towards STEP membership.
